Deer Island was about a 5-minute boat ride from the city of Mazatlán. We visited Deer Island in mid-November, and it was wonderful. We had the whole beach to ourselves.

The water was warm and calm, it was like we were transported to a remote island in the Caribbean. We bought our own food, drinks, umbrellas, towels, and snorkel gear as there were limited amenities on this island. We went over to the island on a small boat from Playa Gaviotas, just north of the Marriott hotel and was $200 peso each round-trip.

We recommend going there early in the morning when the water is calmer. Be prepared to get wet as you must wade through the water to get onto the boat and crash through the waves to get to the island.

We setup an umbrella and a beach blanket, and with the beach so empty we had a bit of trouble finding someone to take our photo =P. Luckily another couple showed up and we were able to get a picture of us on the beach with the Mazatlán golden zone in the background.

Deer Island is a great little getaway from the hustle and bustle of Mazatlán. Book a trip, get on a boat and go! Happy Exploring!

After some lunch on the beach, we grabbed our snorkel gear and waded into the welcoming waters. It was definitely low visibility but still great to see a puffer fish and many more up close.
