One of the most memorable experiences for me while visiting Mazatlán was watching The Nutcracker performance at the Angela Peralta Theater. The theatre was built in 1878 and was restored from 1987 to 1992. Inside the theatre was a horseshoe-shaped room with seats on the ground floor and seats along the three levels of balconies.

We were fortunate to have been able to get the last few tickets available for the Nutcracker performance, but it was an experience on its own I tell you! The only ways to get tickets were to either contact the theater via WhatsApp or make a trip down to the theater and buy them at the box office.

The box office was supposed to be open from 9 am, so I started contacting them continuously on WhatsApp shortly after 9 am and did not get a response till 11 am! Lucky for us, they responded saying that there were a few seats available on the 3rd balcony. Now knowing that there were tickets available, we rushed down to the theater and got our tickets. Did I mention that the whole everything was done in Spanish? For someone like me that does not speak Spanish, Google translate became my best friend.

The tickets for The Nutcracker performance were very affordable, ranging from $12-$20 USD depending on the location of the seats.

Finally, it’s show time! We got to the theater 30 mins early and were shown to our seats on the 3rd balcony. I had to laugh at how bad our seats were! They were tucked in the corner high above the side of the stage, it was impossible to even see the stage!

With the way the seats were positioned, the only good seats were the ones directly facing the stage. So, we gave up the seats that we bought and sat on the walkway behind the first row facing the stage. And we weren’t the only ones!

Mazatlán is a paradise for painters, musicians, and art enthusiasts. It captivates visitors with its lively streets and colourful festivals. The Angela Peralta Theater stands as a beacon of cultural expression, hosting nightly performances that showcase the city's dynamic musical and theatrical talents. Highly recommend planning a night out to the theaters. Happy exploring!

Despite having a sore butt from sitting on a firm surface for 2 hours, I very much enjoyed the show. It was a world-class performance by the dancers and the orchestra. A few things to note about the theater, no food, or drinks are allowed in the theater, not even water.

They had a concession stand where you could purchase wine or beer, but they did not have bottled water. My friend was thirsty, so during intermission she purchased white wine in a plastic cup from the concession stand. They would not let her go into the theatre with it, so she had to guzzle down the whole thing at once! Those Mexicans sure take their drinks seriously!
