Rizal Park
Exploring Rizal Park in Manila
PHILIPPINES
After landing in Manila we had a couple days before hopping on to the overnight ferry to Coron. We used this time we had to go and explore Rizal Park, named after the national hero Jose Rizal. It is a sprawling green oasis that holds great historical significance in the Philippines. Spanning over 58 hectares, it offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city life. The park is adorned with beautiful gardens, fountains, and sculptures, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and picnics.
Rizal Park is home to several important landmarks, such as the Rizal Monument and a large national flag. With its rich history, verdant landscapes, and iconic monuments, Rizal Park is truly a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Manila.
Getting from our hotel to Rizal Park was also a new experience as the city boasts a unique mode of transportation called Jeepney's. Riding a jeepney in Manila is a unique and exhilarating experience. These vibrant, brightly colored vehicles are a staple of the city's transportation system. As you hop on, the bustle of the streets and the rhythmic honking of horns surround you. The jeepney's open sides let in the warm breeze, allowing you to feel the energy of the city. Inside, you are greeted with a kaleidoscope of colorful decorations, from religious icons to pop culture posters.
The ride itself is an adventure, as the jeepney weaves through traffic, navigating the chaotic streets with ease. You are immersed in the sights and sounds of the city, catching glimpses of bustling markets, towering skyscrapers, and historic landmarks along the way. Riding a jeepney in Manila is not just a means of transportation, but a vibrant and authentic experience that truly captures the spirit of the city.
We have heard that many travelers choose to land in Manila and immediately rushing off to their next destination. We highly recommend spending a few days to explore the city and getting a feel for this unique cityscape. Happy exploring!
