Nikko
Visiting traditional Japanese temples in Nikko
JAPAN
From the busy city of Tokyo we took the train to Nikko. The train was a convenient and picturesque way to explore the beautiful nature and rich culture of Japan. The journey started at Tokyo Station, where we boarded the Tobu Railway's limited express train. As the train left the city behind, we were treated to stunning views of the Japanese countryside, with its lush green mountains and charming rural landscapes.
The train ride took approximately two hours, and upon arrival in Nikko, we found ourselves surrounded by the town's famous attractions, such as the stunning Toshogu Shrine and the five storied pagoda. We were there in January and the weather was cold while we explored the rich history of the area.
Stepping into this enchanting town felt like entering a different world. The centuries-old shrines and temples were magnificent, but as well, the picturesque landscape surrounding them with ancient massive trees and lush nature made the experience that much more memorable. One of the highlights of visiting Nikko is exploring the stunning Toshogu Shrine, renowned for its intricate architecture and ornate decorations.
The majestic Kegon Falls was also a must-see attraction, providing a serene and tranquil atmosphere. We were also quite fortunate that we did the majority of exploring on the first day. As we woke up the next morning, a thick blanket of snow covered many of the walkways, providing a new look to the landscape but also making it challenging to get around.
Nikko's vibrant history, stunning natural scenery, and warm hospitality make it a perfect destination for a unique and immersive experience in Japan. Happy exploring!

Additionally at our hotel they provided a traditional dinner and had a pool area that was fed by a natural hot spring for us to indulge in a relaxing bath and rejuvenate our body and mind.
