Washington DC
Visiting the Capital of the United States of America
USA
As a family we were excited to visit the capital city of the United States. Washington, D.C. is not only the political heart of the nation but also rich in history and culture. The city has been the seat of the federal government since 1800 and is home to numerous historical landmarks and museums.
Key attractions include the iconic National Mall, which stretches from the Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial, showcasing monuments like the Washington Monument and the World War II Memorial.
Our hotel was just north of the White House and we got to walk the the historic neighborhood of Georgetown on our way to the sights. The neighborhood features charming cobblestone streets and water features providing a picturesque spot to enjoy dining and shopping.

With such a large area and so many sights to see we ended up spending the entire day at the National Mall and got to see the beautiful pink and orange hues of the sky as the sun set over the Lincoln Memorial.

The rich political history and diverse attractions make Washington, D.C. a must-visit destination when exploring the United States.
Be sure to try and plan the trip around good weather and bring good walking shoes as the National Mall is larger than we expected. Happy exploring!
After arriving to the national mall, we walked down the Constitution Gardens. The area was beautiful and had a peaceful vibe with still water and the birds walking and flying around the grounds.
Next we made it to the Lincoln Memorial which unfortunately at the time of our visit was under renovation. This area was bustling with people and was a must visit destination in the mall. Right in front of the Lincoln Memorial was the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The water stretched far into the distance and was an impressive sight.
We walked along the edge of the Reflecting Pool and made our way to the World War II Memorial. This was an iconic outdoor memorial honoring the 16 million Americans who served during World War II. The beautiful fountain, large stonework pillars, and inscriptions that honor every state and territory provide a feeling of weight of the history and gratitude owed to those who served.
