During our trip to Cuba we booked several days of scuba diving. We had also wanted to ride in one of those beautiful classic cars that we had admired cruising around Havana. To our surprise, our guide picked us up in a vintage 1950s classic car to transport us to the dive sites. So it was like having two tours in one!

For our first dive, the waters at Varadero were rough and so the tour took us to the other side of the island at the Bay of Pigs where we entered the water at Playa Larga. With crystal-clear turquoise waters, a diverse marine ecosystem, and some sunken boats, this area was a paradise for divers of all levels. We saw vibrant coral reefs teeming with colorful fish. The calm and warm waters provided excellent visibility.

For the next dive, the waters near Varadero was calm. So the guide took us on a short drive to Coral Beach. There we were greeted by an abundance of marine life, including colorful tropical fish, and some cave experiences. The coral formations were breathtaking, creating a mesmerizing underwater landscape.

These were our initial experiences with warm-water scuba diving, contrasting with our previous certification in Vancouver, where we trained in approximately 8°C waters wearing dry-suits. Here we were just wearing short sleeved wet suits and the pristine waters of Cuba exceeded our expectations, offering warmth and clarity that were truly remarkable. Below is a video summary of the dives. Enjoy!

The warm Caribbean climate and gentle currents make for excellent diving conditions year-round. With an abundance of marine life in Cuba, we highly recommend booking a dive and exploring the amazing waters just steps off the beach. Happy exploring!
