We traveled from El Nido to Puerto Princesa and booked a group tour to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River. From the main city, the drive was about an hour and a half, then we hopped on to a small boat to get over to the main beach. Located in the Palawan province, this underground river is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.

This was a full day tour due to its remoteness and it being a very popular destination. Once we arrived, they gave us a boat number and that was our boat to enter the underground river. While we waited, we had options to going ziplining or join the mangrove tour. We could also explore the hiking trails, or just sit and relax at the beach.

We chose to do join the mangrove tour. So after arriving at the beach we hopped on to a little paddle boat and floated down the mangrove. It was our first time exploring a mangrove and we were immediately struck by the vibrant hues of greenery that surrounded us. The dense tangle of mangrove trees, and their tangled roots protruding from the water like gnarled fingers grasping the earth. We could see the little fishes seeking shelter among the roots, while the crabs and shrimp scurried about in search of food.

After we finished the mangrove tour, we walked along the Jungle trail and spotted some Long-Tailed Macaque monkeys in the trees. Janet decided to join them by climbing a tree on the beach. The surrounding beach and water were beautiful and we finished our last bit of waiting for the underground river tour by chasing crabs and looking for shells on the beach.

The tour was a feast for the eyes but unfortunately it was too dark for my camera to capture the unique sights inside the cave, so you'll just have to make a visit yourself! Happy exploring!

Next our boat number was called, we boarded a small boat and headed into the underwater cave. While exploring this natural wonder, we saw stunning limestone formations, crystal-clear waters, and a diverse ecosystem with bats chirping along the roof. At some points we were surrounded by towering stalactites and stalagmites, creating a surreal atmosphere. Our knowledgeable guide provide insightful information about the river's geological formations and the importance of its conservation. With its breathtaking beauty and ecological significance, a visit to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River was an unforgettable journey into the heart of nature.
