Oamaru is a charming town located on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Known for its well-preserved Victorian architecture, limestone buildings, and rich heritage, Oamaru offers visitors a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.

One of the highlights of Oamaru is its historic precinct, where beautifully restored 19th-century buildings line the streets. The Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust has played a significant role in preserving and restoring these heritage buildings, which now house art galleries, boutiques, cafes, and museums.

The Oamaru Victorian Precinct is a delight to explore on foot, with its cobblestone streets, ornate facades, and vintage charm.

We had a great time exploring Oamaru and the unique aspects that the city has to offer. Happy exploring!

Oamaru is also home to a blue penguin colony and they have used the local white limestone rock to create a statue for them. Additionally, warning signs are posted indicating that penguins frequently cross the road in the area! We also encountered various marine creatures, including a seal lounging on the seawall, and a multitude of birds roosting on the old piers along the waterfront.
