Mazatlán Eclipse
Enjoying a total solar eclipse in Mazatlán

The 2024 Mazatlán Eclipse was a highly anticipated event that we had the opportunity to witness on April 8, 2024. The total solar eclipse passed directly over Mazatlán Mexico. In the days leading up to the event the city's population swelled as travelers from all over the world flocked to Mazatlán to witness this once-in-a-lifetime astronomical phenomenon.
During the experience of totality the moon entirely blocked the sun, casting the area into a surreal darkness.
This moment of total eclipse was awe-inspiring, as the sky underwent a dramatic transformation. As the sun’s light is hidden, the stars become visible, and the horizon around us looked like a sunset. It was truly a magical atmosphere for everyone in the crowd.
The duration of darkness during the Eclipse was approximately 4 minutes and seemed to just fly by as we took in this amazing experience.
As well, it was a very unique experience to be able to look at the sun directly when the moon completely covered the sun during the period of totality. The best I can describe what it looked like was a blackhole framed by a circle of light in the sky.
Unfortunately we didn't bring any specialized camera gear to capture images of the sun as the moon moved across or totality. Leading up to the moment of totality you could see the effect the moon was having on the shadows with the crescent shape.
Viewing a total solar eclipse was truly an emotional experience. The event shows the spectacular display that mother nature can put on and the atmosphere of the event was magical. Take the opportunity to view a solar eclipse in person and it will take your breath away! Happy exploring!
