Grand Canyon South Rim
Spending a day exploring the South rim of the Grand Canyon
USA
We had the opportunity to visit the Grand Canyon in the Fall. Compared to visiting in the summer the crowds were a little more manageable and the temperatures were pleasant. We found that when visiting the Grand Canyon, one of the must-do activities was walking the trail to Mather Point. The trail offers breathtaking views of the magnificent canyon, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in its awe-inspiring beauty.
As we hiked along the trail, we couldn't help but marvel at the sheer grandeur and vastness of the surrounding landscape. Once you reach Mather Point, the panoramic vistas will take your breath away. The combination of the deep canyons, rugged cliffs, and vibrant colors create a truly unforgettable sight.
After taking in the views at Mather Point and walking several kilometers down the rim trail, we walked back to the visitor center and caught the blue line shuttle to Hermits Rest. The shuttle ride provides a convenient and scenic way to reach this historic viewpoint, where you can soak in even more breathtaking views of the canyon. The visitor center has a shuttle map where it describes the different lines, stops, and directions for getting the most out of your trip to the South Rim.
In order to get to Hermits Rest, we first caught the blue line shuttle to the red line route transfer station. Then caught a red line shuttle and took it to the last station, Hermits Rest.

After several hours of hiking, we got to Powell Point and caught the red line shuttle back to the transfer station to get on the blue line shuttle. We then caught the blue line shuttle back to the visitor center. The landscapes were magnificent but we had been surprised that we hadn't seen any large wildlife. Then suddenly as we were driving out of the park, we saw a huge elk saunter across the road and disappeared into the forest.
Janet was quick with the camera and took a photo of him before he disappeared. Such an adventure at the Grand Canyon and definitely put it on your list! Happy exploring!

The amazing views continued and our breath was taken away as we went around each bend on the trail. Below is a gallery of some of the views as we walked along the Rim Trail.

Located at Hermits Rest is a cool little stop equipped with a snack bar, water station and washrooms. The hike and views along this section of the Rim Trail were spectacular. As the sun moved across the sky, the red hues of the canyon walls darkened and the lengthening shadows added additional texture to the landscape.
